It's my birthday and I'll buy if I want to.....

Postby paulsmodellingworkshop » Fri Aug 19, 2011 3:21 pm

Sorry guys and girls, couldn't resist it! :)

Whilst up at Kennilworth Castle last week I decided to by my self an early birthday present (tis today! hurrah!):

Image

obviously a replica as I doubt I'd be allowed to keep a real one!

Image

seems to fit my large head (or is that the hair?) reasonably well, as long as I wear a monmouth/beanie underneath.

Image

even the missus didn't mind me spending money on a large helmet! ;)

Did you promise to take the wife out for lobster?

Happy Birthday Paul!!!
Lovely helmet..............Mmmmm I might want to rephrase that ;)
I too collect such things but that is very nice!
My ultra early birthday present is a Pompeii Gladius......I will organise a thread for that once it's here, but i have always liked ECW Helmets of this type....very nice!

I agree it is quite difficult to get real ones in the house!
i recently sold a WW1 German Stahlhelm, i needed the funds but was never fully comfortable with it in the house.....i didn't want to mention that to the family, but it was a battlefield pick up job, the owner had clearly been a victim....and it had a presence about it..............friendly i have to say, but it wasn't well liked by the girls!
Last year i sold my infamous piece of allach porcelain...which came from the Reich Chancellery, A cup and saucer utterly superb piece...24 carat gold eagle on both cup and saucer and monogram A.H.! I hated to have to sell it but, house has lightened up a bit since it's gone......it cast a dark shadow.
All my Photo's are now here!!! http://sisolders.wordpress.com/

I've got a swivel bail M1 which looks like it has two long dents on the top which is two bullet hits welded shut. A mate also has a M28 doughboy pack with a number of holes that all line up when it's packed to be a hit in the middle of the spine. What is funny is he wandered about using it for for years not realising.

I gree, some historical items do just make you feel uneasy to have.
