No offence taken at all :D

The staffer I mentioned wasnt being particularly sniffy either, re Warlord: IIRC he collects their models for various periods...I think he just though it amusing.

That is so very true!

I have literally spent HOURS trying to figure out how I was going to play the LAOK scenarios even reasonably affordably. The best I can do is Baccus 6mm - decent but not wow minis (I used to paint for GHQ); metals in 28mm are right out of the budget. 15mm? I would use minifies, but the website has been down for maintenance since FEBRUARY. Awesome. Minifigs UK - someone should let them know their pictures, where available, are blurry or completely useless.

I suppose this will be seen as grumbling or ranting, but these crummy little cottage shops with substandard websites are just frustrating. Almost makes me want to just play Space Marines. At least the pics are good etc.

Warlord's site is excellent, but it all comes down again to the availability and pricing of the figures - not that Warlord even has any 18th Century minis (not true - Cumberland, Charlie, and Wee Wullie...).

I fell like I have lost a day of my life rummaging around for minis, and won't be getting the time back.

Sorry, the OP does not make a lot of sense:

a) Whilst plastic figures are cheaper it still takes the same time/effort to paint them. So a really large army is still going to take time to get ready.

b) Plastic figures (infantry) are already available, with cavalry on its way and perhaps even artillery.

I can understand where your coming from. But. I make all the sense in the world!
A. Time is always factor. Yes, it will take time to build an army and paint it, no matter the scale!
B. There are not any 28mm plastics for SYW or 1745 out there. If by chance you are referring to the Wargames Factory plastics - ugh. Might as well play with lumps of clay. Besides, given the nature of their business practices (very openly displayed over the last year) I would never ever not once no way buy from such an obviously shady outfit.

So I am back to Baccus - best bang for the buck, I think, and am about to go call.

Ps - looked at Pendraken! They tempted me, they tempted me.... Call them choice two...

Yes I was referring to the War of the Spanish Succession, for which there are 28mm plastic infantry available now. So as you say, just pointing out why I did not see the validity of your post.

I appreciate that and cheers for trying to throw a solution out there! I really can't stand the WSS figures. They look ... poopy.

Just ordered a Prussian and Austrian army that will be capable of making the Battle of Hundorf scenario (and probably have a few spares about too!).

Total cost was around 110GBP. Now, when the SYW or Jacobite plastics start rolling in from Warlord or maybe Perry, I won't have spent a small fortune on metals in 28mm, and in the meantime I can be playing on a smaller table (I will scale down from Inches to cm for the 6mm figs).

Should be all good! Huzzah! Off to battle!

ps I am actually quite mad, and often don't make sense of any kind

WSS isn't 1745 or SYW/FIW.

I would love some 1745 figures but I wouldn't like to go down in size from 28mm.

Have to say regarding the WF WSS I was very disappointed with the infantry, but the previews of the cavalry look excellent. I do find the detail is a bit shallow on all their minis, but perhaps that will be improved upon. As to whether you deal with them from an ethical point of view is up to the individual.

If you where tempted by the SYW from Pendraken.
Then take a look at their AWI range..!!!!!!

The nice thing about Pendraken is that they improve on old ranges.
So AWI is actually one of the later ones and is fantastic.
And if you take a look at Leauge of Augsburg...........Well dont tell your wife who told you...
She might end up lynching me;)

WSS isn't 1745 or SYW/FIW.

But is included in Last Argument of Kings, hence the plastic figures being available.
