Oh, wow. Haha. I really should have a lot to do! I'm rather excited to do the basing.
That will probably be my favorite part.

I'll start reading up on stuff and I'll try and find the book!
I really appriciate all the help everyone!

I really was thinking about the Romans but, it also doesn't help that I've already bought several Germans from another company.
So, I'd hate to not paint them!

Perhaps I'm crazy, but I feel bad not painting them.

Hi Wolffy
No you are not crazy, you spent money on them so you should want to paint them.
I have found this tutorial pretty useful:
http://www.victrixlimited.com/painting_ ... vanced.php

It is mega detail, bit you can take and use what you want of it.

My basic routine is:

Undercoat in black grey or white, black for darker figures White for lighter.

Bascoat all the colours in flat colour

Was the colours using GW washes ( badab black and Devlan mid mainly)

Then Paint the highlights

Then do the base, psint it brown then use static grass, flock, stone wood, tufts etc(look in the basing section on the warlord web store).
Good luck, have fun!

Be carefull painting WW2 is highly addictive and most rewarding at the same time :) I started of painting Ancients and really loved it and the folks on here are very supportive.I moved on to WW2 about 6 months ago and only intended painting 2 different armies but now i seem to be painting everything Warlords have brought out in this era and sadly the Ancients have been neglected :( My advise is to buy the paints you need as a minimum and progress from there.I probably have over 100 paints at ther momment and started with Citadel paints as i could buy them locally but soon found i didnt really have the right shades for WW2 so moved to Valejo and havent looked back. So check out the internet stores and see what deals you can get as it can become rather expensive otherwise :)
Oh and i always use washes with my figures as i find it brings out the detailing nicely and Valejos come in a good variety of shades but the one i use most is their Sepia which is very similar to Citadels Devlin Mud. Basing is really your own choice and there are some great basing materials out there and if your like me my basic componet is Beach sand which doesnt cost me a cracker :D

So hope to see some of your minis soon and welcome to the forum :)

Alrighty! I was actually really concerned about how to use a wash or spray.

I've seen a lot of models be all touched up and nice with a white or black coat.
That would be a spray, right?

No need to be concerned about washes. For the novice painters out there and indeed the brilliant painters, Games Workshop Washes are a magic bullit. You just paint it on, leave to dry and you see a decent looking miniature. Spraying isn't too hard if you read that can's instructions and don't point right at the models and press. You want to not point at them, press and then move accross the models. Thin coats and not thick. Don't get concerned about getting the recesses at all, you can get them later with thinned paint.... which brings me to the last basic....
ALWAYS thin you paint on a pallet with water. This gives you better control and stops you caking the model in lumpy paints and hiding detail. Thin it, mix it around, there's no exact science to it, really just as thin as you can make it and still be able to paint with it.
Putting it together, as a beginner painter you prime the model with spray, then you can paint flat colours on the areas and then give them a wash. You'll be surprised at this stage how finished it looks. If you want you can try highlighting them. like the painting tuitorial showed but if not then that's fine.

Not quite shore of what you mean "Touched up with white or black coat" I always undercoat my figures with a black undercoat, which i achieve with a good quality matt black spray paint. Over hear in Aus i use Dulux, but any good matt black spray paint will do. As to applying washes i use a brush dipped into the wash with a few drops of water added.I then procede to cover the portion of the model which has had its base coat applied with the relevant wash.Try not to put the wash on too thick but allow it to settle into the folds and creases on the model. This is why i use a little water to help the wash disperse. After this apply your high lights with a slightly lighter shade than the original base coat and Bobs your Uncle ;) This is all trial an error and the more you paint the better you'll get. Hope this explains things a little clearer :)

Lots of advice is better than no advice, mate - and even better when it doesn't contradict!
