Where do I learn to sculpt?

Postby Lord William Burke » Fri Aug 05, 2011 5:48 pm

Well the subject pretty much says it all. Where do I learn to sculpt? I've been looking at dabbling in sculpting my own minis for a while now. I have a large imagination and plenty of projects to work on, just haven't developed enough talent to do my own sculpts yet. :roll: Does anyone have any suggestions for places to go to(preferrably State-side),books to use,etc? Would like any and all info. Thanks ;)
When asked by Cromwell what O'Neill thought of the surrender of Clonmel, White blankly replied;
"I cannot answer that as O'Neill is no longer in Clonmel."

Well, my sage advice is to cheat as much as possible and buy as much pre-made stuff as possible - weapons, heads, armatures etc.. Hasslefree Miniatures sell a lot of good stuff.

Take it slow, start simple and work from a picture, build up your basic shapes first, leave to dry and then add your details bit by bit. There are plenty of books on the subject but there's no substitute for just getting out there and making a sackful of silly mistakes yourself. I'm a big believer in the educational value of personal errors to help you improve.

Ebob's got a fair bit of advice and such. He also sells supplies fairly cheap.

I was going to recommend that site, as well as Reaper - they sell armatures that are thin to muscular. So you can decide how much start you want on the body etc.

I don't sculpt full figures, I don't mind adding some stuff to minis though, but I have to admit that I look for the closest mini rather than having to work on sculpting! I find that as I have become older, I am less willing to be patient...

Good luck and be sure to post your results!

Again I would say make it as easy for yourself as possible.

Lots of info out there on the net but if you can, find a real person out there to take you through it.
