It was 'pan tiles' from a railway/model shop. Moulded plastic sheet.

The ridges were strips cut of the main sheet to cover the join

Lovely watchtower! Of course the fresco really makes it stand out - without it, it would be a very nice tower, but with it it's just fantastic.
PS. I love wooden coffee stirrers. A shame so few places have them.. now it's always the same who are victim of my big pockets!
