Dried-out QuickShade

Being an idiot, I left the lid to a can of Strong Tone not quite sealed, and I now have a can which is about 60 percent dried (brownish jelly-like substance) and the rest useable.

Is there anything I can do to resurrect the dried-out portion? (expecting the answer 'buy another can' but it doesn't hurt to ask )

Traditionally the cure for this is to tie a potato to your foot, and do a ceremonial dance over a sacrificed goat. If that fails, buy a new can.

Seriously though I would Scoop a bit out, pop it in a jar and try using White spirits to revive it. If it works apply to the whole can.

Thinning it should work.

You should occasionally apply a drop of thinners to a can of this product because as you slowly use it up over a period of months it tends to get a little thicker . Apply it on too thick will ruin models .

mine did the same, i put some white spirit in the can and gave it a good shake, seems to be ok again now.

One tip I learned many ,many years ago, was to store the tin upside down. This means that when a skin forms over the top of an oil based paint, it is at the bottom of the tin. When you turn it over to use you have a nice skin free surface to dip into. Of course, if you forget to put the lid on properly it will be a total disaster, but the plus side is that it makes you remember to put the lid on properly in the first place.
