Looking really good, especially the stripes. It's now going to take me longer to paint mine as I attempt more stripes myself, just hope I can get half as good as yours. The close ups make me feel old Frown . I'm struggling to see the detail they reveal, let alone paint it.

Don't worry. The less you can see the less you have to paint Embarassed

It looks like Jim doesn't need to buy any woad transfers does he? I wonder if we could kidnap him and set him to work?

Jim's Legion

Cheers Gents,

That was my first attempt at a celt tartan or stripy t-shit, and I am pretty sick of it! It took a while and I wasnt really impressed with the effect I was achieveing for the time and effort it took to paint them. So thats why I changed over to the football gernsey style of stripes. The celt in the blue shirt does stand out a fair bit though.

And I just had to buy some glasses which is annoying ( dont you hate having to spend your hard earned money on bloody essentials like food and glasses and gas bills) So hopefully my next unit wont come out so scrappy Wink

Overall I think the celt cavalry figures are great and there is a good balance between detail and paintability.

Next on the list are some more archers and slingers and then hopefully some aux cav and warmachines for christmas, and maybe some chariots….

Cheers,

Jim

Jim's Legion

Okay, its been a while since I got some photos up. But this is the start of the models I got painted up over Christmas. The pictures are not that great, but I will post some, more when the weather clears and the sun decides to come out.

This is the Red Ballistae is posted about a while ago. The thought behind it was that Artillery men throughout the ages have (been wierd) painted their warmachines and adorned them with all sorts of things, so why wouldn't the Romans do something similar with theirs. Plus Red ones go faster.

Cheers,

Jim

Now that's a nice red colour, not too bright, could almost look like the Romans made it from mahogany or teak!....what paint did you use Jim?

Jim's Legion

Me looking at this and the Might of Rome posts have the wife worried I'll start on Rome and Celts as well

But since there is a large mount of ECW minis I have to do first, I'll stick to drolling over the pictures, not the least since the quallity of the painting is beyond me

G'day Gents,

Thanks for the comments. I have taken some more photos today of the scorpio's.

I have primarily used GW foundation paints and Army Painter Dip. With the artillery though I did some dry brushing of mechrite red and bubonic brown followed with some washes to give a bit of an extra finish before hitting with the dip. The metal components are just chainmail with a badab black and devlan mud wash before dipping. The bronze bits are Vallerjo bronze.

I call the Battery The 'Fist of Mars' or 'Pugnus of Palus' if my dodgey latin translator is accurate.

Or otherwise 'cave silicis'.

They are beautiful minis to paint. Well done Warlord Games.

Cheers,

Jim
