..or you can buy pre-sealed cork tiles, sealed with an acrylic sealer. (In UK you can get these from Wicks but I know thats not good for Marcus, though I'm sure most big DIY places sell them)

Thanks for that info Mikey . We do have a Wicks in our town centre. I think I will be going down the cork tile route if I find them thin enough. The beauty of cork in whatever form it is very easy to cut. The tiles certainly are looking especially useful for the curved sections.

I must admit I have been bitten by the bug for this Normandy 20mm project. The rules produced by GW are excellent and the photos of the model terrain is a great inspiration. I only wished they had charged a more realistic price for the book because it is a great book and one I can't put down for very long. But for me that sums up GW these day,s great products, shame about the prices ( with the exception of the Fine Cast debacle ).Incidently I picked up four Dragon painted (beautifully) Sturm iii and ivs for £25.00 all in at the Phalanx show at St Helens . Fantastic models at a fantastic price. For those who are not familiar with Dragon they are probably the Rolls Royce equivalent of plastic kits( with brass etched parts) and ready to runs and generally very expensive to buy.

Yes, cork tiles are very useful, I like them for dioramas and such like because they are great to putting pinned figures into.

Wicks: http://www.wickes.co.uk/sealed-cork-flo ... urce=123_4

They stock Dragon stuff at the Model Railway shop I mentioned and they do look very good.

I do not know if you are still looking for a way to make road sections.

I made mine with plastic card (~1mm thick) that I textured with ceramic tile glue mixed with water and sand.

Here is a photo with BAM carriers.

I also had sections with some patches of cobblestones rising from dust and mud

Yes I am looking forward to see how you get on to see the theory put into practice. I do like those plasticard road sections.
Tile glue is that some type of superstrength PVA?

It does not really look like PVA glue, much more like putty or filler but with some sandy bits. That is why I mixed it with water otherwise it is too dense.

Gday all i have a section of road made using cork tile with a topping of sand mixed with pva glue. The mixture took about 48 hours to dry naturally and whilst it was still semi wet on the 2nd day i ran 2 parrallel line with the blunt end of a pencil creating ruts. When nearly dry to touch i ran over it with a toy car with offroad wheels both parrallel and from side to side and then across.Tell me what you all think ;)
