Hey, sorry won't be much help with building and painting it but I'm curious if I should get it. I'm thinking about properly collecting an army, but I don't really have anyone to play against and I only tried one legion so far. It's a very nice piece though, is it worth it in-game? Drum

Hi Carvel, I got one for xmas, and it is a great model.Firstly, it will be tempting to perhaps not paint the parts you think you can't see. I would recommend painting it all in it's seperate sections as if they were normal troops...leave nothing out!Being resin it would be a good idea to wash it washing up liquid and water then dry before painting. To speed things up you could undercoat the whole thing in Gunmetal and then just paint in the other colours over the top....including shields. the guy who is sticking his head up, do his head as normal but paint the area around him in black. Give the armour a blackwash...or some people use a brown wash.Once painted I'd add the shield blazon decals Then just slot the guys together and roughly work out the dimensions of the base you will stick them on.Stick them on the base, then i used green stuff to build up the base to the level of the Testudo's resin base...allow to dry for 24 hours paint it up etc,I have to say i didn't glue the roof on, it slots on nicely without the need for glue and you can show off the interior!! Basically I use it as an alternative formation to my existing roman legionaries, not as a seperate formation, it gives them much greater defensive abilities.

That's ok, and many thanks!...I haven't finished the base yet!If you haven't seen the recent movie "The Eagle"  try and look out for it when it is released to DVD they use a testudo in that, and gives a good idea of just how effective it is, it's like a tank!!!if you have any problems, or need any additional help just say, but i'msure it will be alright, don't forget to take a picture and stick it up on here!

I used a cocktail stick, to paint the edges of the sheilds. Holds the point better than using a brush. Laugh And I also added 3 or 4 extra romans in the middle without sheilds or weapons to bulk out the centre of the model, looks good whe you look through the model.johnm
