War Quadriga W.I.P.

Postby Biggus Dickus » Tue May 10, 2011 3:25 pm

Something wicked this way comes………………………….. Ok Then here is some of the first offerings of the Fantasy side of my Roman Army………….A War Quadriga…………First part partially finished, the chariot itself.Obviously based largely on Tomb kings chariot……I did the Decal/transfer myself.I've got to add all the kit next, banner, Pilum, Shields, Crew…….The Crew are Warlord and converted W.F with Warlord Head……….but they will follow shortly, until then hope you like the basic chariot !!!

Cool, will be interesting to see it when it is completed. The decal/transfer? Did you buy the paper and print them onto it?

Hi Mike, yes bought some paper for my inkjet, and also the various microscale products 3 which you need. Thing is doing decals yourself isn't cheap to start with, but You only do it if you can't buy the thing you want and no one will do it for you! Then you really have to fill up your sheet of A4 with as many designs as you can to make it more cost effective.........there are issues with colour and them being a bit see through.....Black is fine, but you have to think about background colour of paint if you decide on colour!I don't know if things are better using a laser printer, will have to let you all know when i try that! The upside is you get very unique transfers.Otherwise always best to buy your decals/transfers!!!!

They really are very good!Regarding the horses, I would try 'block' painting the first layer of the white highlight on the larger areas - like the rump and back etc and then drybrushing over the entire horse as normal. I have found It does give a more consistent finish and avoids the 'cobweb' effect.

Hi Paul, thank you very much for the praise and the tip. That's a very good point, I'll give it a go on my next horse. I can see what you mean about the cobwebbing effect.I'll post the results next time..............my next set of horses are cataphracts so heavily armoured!!!.....it will have to wait a bit!!

Really very impressed-Great idea to use a TK chariot. I've considered doing the same thing for an Egyptian army or Ben Hur style chariot race, but you've really raised the bar with that mate-really well done!Laugh

Many thanks for that Potter, that's very appreciated. If it gives anyone ideas that's great, that's the whole point really!!!The Tomb kings chariot is very Egyptian looking so ideal for Egyptian period force. The only issue i would raise is Warhammer 28mm is a bit big!!! So your chariot would be nice and roomy...it's just down to choice of horses really, I've used G.W. Elf horses but they are  the size of small elephants compared to 28mm scall horses!! But they look so impressive and very Ben hur, which was what i wanted. It is fairly easy to get hold of the chariot parts in USA (Ebay Hordes of bits) without having to buy the whole kit, so you could have a whole squadron for the price of one of the shelf! When i was a kid many moons ago i had a box of Airfix 1/72 scale Romans in that kit was a chariot.....not really historically correct in terms of a weapons systems, but that's what drove me to this!!!Go for it and post the pictures, it is a lot of fun creating, kit bashing is the thing i like most !
