Help with paint colours for french

Postby mikeland » Thu May 12, 2011 2:56 am

Hi I am working on a mini project and I need to paint a few french infantry, Peninsular 1812. Does anyone know what Games Workshop blue would be suitable for their jacket colour. Thanks in advance for any help.

I think you will find that GW paints are geared to a land of fantasy. There are companies that do historical paint so those might be a better option or mixing GW paints until you have the desired colour.

Help with paint colours for french

Pick one you like WinkThe exact colour is something we will probably never know and we all spend ages searching/asking for the correct shade for French/Prussian/RHA etc blue but even if we knew how they started off they would all fade to infinitely varied shades. Life's too short to worry about what everybody else thinks is right hence my advice at the start of this post. whatever you go with some smart alec will say that it's 2 shades too dark/light etc.

Thanks guys@zedeyejoe Yes, I generally use a mixture of GW and Vallejo however getting Vallejo paints is not that simple for me, because of were I live and work I only get to the Vallejo stockist every couple of months, so for just the odd pot it is easier to use GW which I can source locally. This is only  needed for a hand full of figures for 2 vignettes I am working on.  @NTM Thanks, that is quite helpful, I suppose the dyes would have varied from batch to batch anyway, I want them to look pretty weathered too.

This is the Vistula Legion, a unit I did a few years back and I mixed up a Base, Midtone and Highlight colour set for the tunics. The Base was Midnight Blue (no longer produced I think, but the Necron Abyss is close) mixed with Shadow Grey, and then the stages are highlighted up with more Shadow Grey, with a final flick of pure Shadow Grey across sleeve creases etc..Hope this helps.Vistula

Thanks for the recipe, I like the way those look, I might give that a try.
