Colonel White, fear not the blog will be updated soon with all sorts of stuff on the Covenanters Colour's at Auldearn.  Mind you, you will have to take it all with a large pinch of snuff as apart from the Lawers colours we know nothing definite of the other regiments.  That being said, by dgging into the recruiting grounds, looking at other units raised there and tying it to the regimental name I'm making a stab at it.  http://auldearn1645.blogspot.c.....iment.htmlThe Lord Chancellors colours - know nothing about.  However, the crest on the colonels colours is the oldest version of the office I could find so it gives a link - nothing more.  Lawer's, well the blue and white saltire from Dunbar may be theirs, but the thistle might as easily be someone else's - you pays your money and make your choice.I'm working up all the colours just now - including the cavalry and hope to have them posted by the end of the month.  Next regiment up is the Northern Levies - so expect a change from the hodden gray.With regards Strathbogie trews - great idea - but remember the Gordon lands are south and east of much of the areas where the rest of the government infantry were raised so you could argue that Findlatters would be just as likely to have worn them!!  Remember, they picked up what they could use or were given - by Philliphaugh, the Irish would have been looking like any other hard campaigning Covenanter regiment as the had scavenged so much kit!!Personally I'd use highlanders for McCollas life guards - mainly as they look big, intimidating and hairy ersed - but they'd be tooled up to the hilt with plenty of firearms!all the bestRoy

The red and blue quartered thistle colour (I have also seen it described as pink and blue, which certainly looks good but is doubtful from an heraldic point of view!) thistle colour is usually attributed to Stewart of Garscube's Regiment. Its a surviving colour - in one of the Edinburgh museums. I'm posting this from the office, so I can't say which at the moment.By the way, iIf you do need the key to those covenanter colours on the Scotwars link, can you suggest how I can get it to you. Maybe I could email it c/o the Bolton shop if that's ok with your friend there? As you've probably discovered, the text of the article is on the previous page, just change the 2 to a 1 but the key to the flags was missed by the magazine in the December issue and appeared in the following month's copy.Rob

Since I last posted here I have been beavering about for snippets of info.I have had a very interesting phone call conversation with one of our club members, Simon from Pig Iron Productions . For those of you who are not aware of this company, it is a local comapny (to Me) based in sunny Bolton and produces SF 28mm figures. Simon has had a couple of quarter page adds in Wargames Illustrated and Brian at the local shop is hoping to start stocking some of his figures in his shop. I here you all cry "Well what's this got to do with ECW?" OK. OK , unknown to me Simon is also a fan of the English Civil War and has a couple of preproduction figures painted up (Which I havn't seen yet) and is meeting me next club night to arrange viewing of these figures and to work together for suggestions for what to do next. I am going to push for to get some ECW Scots clad in trews and some figures suitable to place into levy units. As well as this we are going to discuss getting some ECW games arranged and to try a certain rules set out.Looking forward to this meeting.With my own figures I have assembled the Strathbogie unit and placed a few models from the Montrose Irish set  in to add a bit of Scottish flavour to the unit.I am hoping to prime this unit tonight.
