I am looking at the Auldearn OOB and there are a couple of units I could need your advice on.1) Macolla's Lifeguard. - How would you represent these? Are they musket armed ? Are these Scottish or Irish or both?2) Gordon of Monymore's Regiment- I think these are conventionally armed ie pike and musket, however what would they look like? UNiforms?I am not sure if either of these units will be covered in my "Scot's armies of the ECW war book Men at arms 331 " when it comes in the post.Cheers guys
Just bought my first box of the Irish Brigade last night at Porcullis in Bolton.By eck! what lovely figures these are . I am not kidding and this isn't becasue its Warlord's website but these are some of the most characterful skulpts I have ever seen. They should carry a wealth warning on the side of the box becasue once you have bought one you will want to buy another.I am very much looking forward to working on these though I am still going to do the Strathbogie Regmnt first for the Royalists .i also had a look at the Highlanders set and threse also look very tempting and with my wedding anniversary coming up , I am just hoping it is our tin one!THe frustrating thing I have found in the Highlander setis to do with the flags. I have noticed that the Strathbogie flag is enclosed which is one of the flags I have now sent off for DOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!I have no idea why some of the flags like this are enclosed with the highlanders!
Stunning aren't they! I got my box and immediately ordered metal booster packs so i have a full sized remiment who get used either as freshly led recruits for ECW or veteran mercs for the TYW!
Yes they are and thats what I like best about Warlord is that they are not resting on their laurals , they are forever raising the bar as regards quality and I think the ancients lot (which also includes myself) are in for a treat when the new stuff is released. The only fly in the ointment as far as I am conerned and I know I am risking being put in the firing line here, is probably the Crimean range they inherited. Obviously as they expand the range these will be at the high standards we expect from Warlord.
I did get quite a lot done this weekend including some more Numidian Cavalry for my Carthaginian Army.Any way to the Scots. I did finish painting and varnishing the first unit which will be Lawers Regiment. The bases also got painted and the initial coat of my earthy sand blend was applied, with just the vegetation to apply tonight.I also managed to start work on the first Royalist Unit , the Strathbogies and I have decided to mix a few of the Irish models with the tartan blanket wrapped around them to add variety to this unit. The models I have picked are all wearing the bonnets and have been cleaned up ready for undercoarting which will of course mean I don't need to build quite so many of the plastics.
Last night whilst the Mrs was watching her soaps and before the 2nd half of Blackpool V Chelsea ,I manged to put somefoliage on the bases. I used the HIghland tufts from Army Painter with some other tufts which I obtained a while ago from Minatur. I think these are the same product but repackaged under the Army painter name. Anyway I can recommend them as I think they turn minis into masterpieces despite them being a bit pricey especially as I need a lot of them! I will finish them off tonight with some ordinary foliage which is a blend of ( green GF9, GF9 dead grass and Woodland Scenics finely chopped gren foam).I haven't yet decided which flag to use. This regiments flag is featured as one of the flags enclosed by Warlord but having bought some I do like those flags by Battle Flag and may wait until I sort out my requirements for the other regiments before ordering.
Well apart from the flag the first unit is done. This will be Campbell of Lawers regiment , which is one of the finest Cov units to operate in Scotland. Nice to get this in the "bag".Those Highland tufts by the way may need a "haircut". I felt some were a bit on the large size but once trimmed look really good. Very happy with this unit and I am hoping Brian will allow me to put it on display in his shop. This unit of 40 took me just 2 weeks from start to finish which considereing the standard it is finished too and my other commitments Ancients ,Secrets otTR et al, is pretty good going. This will be probably my last posting here for a while and I will update it once I have completed the first Royalist unit the "Famous" Strathbogie rgmnt. If you guys have any comments or questions , I will of course answer or comment as appropriate here.
Regretably no.The only PC I have access to is this one which belongs to the firm. This is also the reason why I don't post at weekends. Also being a techno phobe I don't own a digital camera . Thats the reason why I am hoping to put the unit on display in the shop.
