ECW Cavalry basing question

Postby Ubique matt » Thu Jul 22, 2010 11:51 am

I’m currently working a number of Warlord cavalry and would be interested in the options of other forum users.
Regarding basing, is it preferable to have:
a) Double base with Commander & trumpeter
b) Double base with Commander and cornet
c) Single bases for all the command group figures
d) None of the above because it’s not worth worrying about.
I plan to use WECW rules if this has any influence on the replies.
Regards,
Matt

ECW Cavalry basing question

Postby Paul @ Warlord Games » Thu Jul 22, 2010 12:43 pm

Hi Matt,

If you're going for WHECW I'd suggest you can mount the command how you like. Some will go singles but by the time you're removing command models it's usually all over anyway...

I'd base my cavalry two to a 40mm square base as it's easier to move around and less likely to fall over than single bases. Of course, being Warhammer-based you'll need one or two single based to act as casualties.

Hope that helps.

Paul

ECW Cavalry basing question

Agree with Paul, I'd keep them separate. It makes them easier to paint too! I've got mine on troops magnetic bases and did move trays from steel paper which it would be Very handy if Warlord sold (hint hint) which makes movement very easy even if everything is on individual bases. I'm planning do do some smaller magnetic trays for BP-ECW so the army will easily do both systems.

i base my stuff on singular bases, but you could do the odd 1 or 2 on multiple bases 50 by 50 for cav and 20 by 40 for infantry,i will be using wab ecw at partizan for the demo game im working on for warlord.

ECW Cavalry basing question

Postby Ubique matt » Fri Jul 23, 2010 4:24 am

Hello again,

Thanks for the feed back. I'm edging towards basing the majority of the cavarly on double bases with a few single figures. I'm painting the horses mostly in various shades of brown but I fancy some variation. I believe that palomino and appaloosa wouldn't be appropriate as they are more common in north America. So I plan to include a few dapple greys and some black horses. However would there have many piebald/skewblad horses trotting about the English countryside during the 17th century?

Regards,

Matt

P.S has any one else noticed that most of the recent forums seem to involve horses/cavalry or is it just me? Think I find to paint some infantry.
