Highlanders!

Postby TheGreatMarquis » Sun Mar 28, 2010 11:13 am

Yes, stunning is the word! These are your best action poses yet. I am looking forward to getting some of them.

What's the authority for the battleaxe? I am aware of the Atholl and Tullibardine Chronicles that refer to "aixes" but also describe them as "called of some Lochaber aixes" and the well-known 1638 Perthshire survey refers to a "pole-axe" - presumably also a Lochaber axe.

The same survey has only 124 out of 451 with bucklers, so taking up Glowr's point, please dont overdo the shields.

Nice figures – but can we also have some highland rabble with long knives, agricultural tools and no shields please?

Already being sculpted...

Fellas,,glad most of you like them...please bear in mind, this is 3 , out of about thirty models we are doing so , saying a chap has not got a particular item of clothing you think he should have, or a weapon that you are not sure of , or he looks horrid full stop is fine, BUT.... there are 27 more to choose from, we have just shown a few to get the ball rolling.....plenty of men in coats/doublets/plaids/bare foot etc etc AND plenty to come with Lochaber axe,(didnt think we had forgotten those did ya?)..a good for instance is the chap with the axe...We know its not a Lochaber axe, its not meant to be, its an agricultural tool as requested by a member of this thread..we just have not yet shown the 3 boys with the lochaber axe...

Also plenty of archers and arrant scum with dirks and not much else...... Enough to pick the fellas you think are right for you....Believe me, one persons' highlander is not everyones.....It is a bit of a grey area whatever you do someone will not like it and thats fine, buy the ones you like and ignore the stuff you dont like.. but dont think we have not put some thought into it, we have..there are no uniform regs and people interpret things as they see them

Not sure about the Jock with his bum on show mind,,, we may get letters about him.....

Cheers and thanks for the posts so far...we think its agreat range that will prove very popular

standard bearer and bagpiper to come mind.....

John I hope you don't think I was being critical - I didn't intend to be. I said the figures were stunning and they are. You won't get me moaning about clothing items either - your comment about highlanders and dress regulations is well made.

I'm grateful you've clarified my query about the axe.

I'm even more happy to see a reference to as many as thirty figures! Now I'm really looking forward to this part of the range!

You mentioned three so far - I've only seen the two at the start of this thread. Please show us more!

You are a very generous fellow... yes , its the evil Paul who wont show more(actually , we DO listen to you all and make some adjustments, of course we really do, thats why we preview, and which is why Paul shows a few at a time) and hes just cruel like that...

I think that the range will punch above its weight actually , the Montrose army (hem hem) is Royalist , doomned, and hence romantic... NOT romantic I know if you were a Covenanter militia man doing his duty and best to stay alive from a loony wild charge from blood thirsty savages...

Rumour controll tells us that MacColla, the Devastator and Earl of Montrose , the most sainted of all generals, (and who's real heart I have held in my own hand I have to say)are only two weeks away from being finished by a wonderful fellow called Mr Hicks..... Get on with it man!!

GreatMarquis - If you're on facebook sign up as a friend to the warlord site there - There's a number of additional pictures on there for most warlord ranges - and more importantly more regular sneak peaks.

Thanks, BigMike. The laird is brilliant! Its just a question of when that one gets added to the Royalist army....along with the Irish Brigade once they're released. And John, when can I order Mr Hicks' Montrose figure? On the basis of Rupert, Essex and Cromwell I've realised I need one!

Hi Mr S,

As a suject close to my heart I am very critical - but only because I would really like to see you turn up trumps on these. And those hose in particular bring up the phrase "Ranoch-ism" Laughing

And Highlander's in particular without coats are a bug bear of mine.

Still, look forward to seeing the rest.
