chariot bases

hey everyone i was just wondering how big bases people have mounted there chariots on as i dont no what size to make them. i was planning to cut up gw'shop modular movement trays to get the right size but i dont no what this is if anyone no's a better basing material then please post.

For a 2 horse light chariot, 40x80mm is popular.

You can use anything for bases, a good quality card (beer mats work well). Plastic is a bit of a problem as it can slide on hills.

Lots of businesses sell pre-made bases.

thanks for that thats really helpful but i thik i'll use the plastic as ive used card before but i always find it is susepable to wear and tear. thanks anyway might be good for someone else but im a bit rough when i wargame!

i used 2 of the 40mm ogre sized gw bases glued together

You could use a GW chariot base, and then cut as many as you need by tracing it on to plastic card. I have done that for chariots and for a ECW saker gun.

If you're basing guns using a whole 10x8cm GW regiment move tray works well as you get enough space to put the gun and crew on as a little vignette, the walls and fences pack work well with it too.

No need to get an (expensive) GW base. It's just a 50 x 100 rectangle. Use a set square and ruler. BTW between 1.5 - 2.0 mm thickness will give a good rigid base for metal models.

I'd recommend warbases, they are cheep and made of MDF, so helping to recycle. I always said wargaming was a green hobby! ;)johnm

ive done them now i used the gw movement trays and made them 100x50mm and that was good i tried the 80 by 40 but the backs of the chariots and front of the horses fell off. so with this they had ample space. so with the bigger ones i had room for a wounded roman on the base!
