Sample Army Lists for Napoleonics

I have regular units of 16-20 foot, 10 cavalry.

I've had people comment on the small size of my units, but I'm not a quick painter and I don't have an unlimited budget for my hobbies. These unit sizes work fine for me, and the game, and allow to you space to manoeuvre on a standard 6x4 board.

This is what I was thinking as well, perhaps even going smaller at 8 figures per battalion, and using War of the Ring movement trays. As I purchased lots thinking it was the greatest thing and then discovered I despised the game.

Got to say that my views on this one is that where there is a historical precedent to say otherwise I am inclined to alter the mechanics to say otherwise.

We normally fielded brigades of two regiments of dragoons during the Peninsular war, and they managed just fine..!!

Hence my suggestion on another thread that Brigades Broken due to Shaken are allowed to retire and still be rallied. You are looking at a minimum of 3 turns you are without the Brigade - 1 retire, 2 Rally one unit, 3 return (well 2 1/2, as you could fire on the third if the unit is able).

The lists look great.

One big question I have is how players are using the Light Infantry battalions other than just the token small rifle unit?

I understand the mixed order stuff and it really seems the skirmish rule is best suited for a small or tiny rilfe unit. So, how do folks play the full 36 figure light unit? Is it spreadout nearly 2 feet across the table per the existing skirmish rules? What happens when this 2 foot long target is charged and how many enemy units can fit in its 2' frontage. Or does it automatically form up into a tight unit?

The list above for the 7th is one division I really would like to do. When your entire Sontag Bde is made up of light BNs, why is only one unit given skirmish?

Has anyone played their line infantry bde with the common doctrine of forming an additional provisional light bn (small) formed by combioning light companies? If so, do the existing skirmish rules work or have additional special rules been added?

It seem in many list and battles reports, the bde rifle company (oddly a scale of 4 figs morphed into a small units of 12-16) plays the part of all and any light infantry screening.

I totally identify with this point but that is the joy of BP. Games that suit the gamer's circumstances not enforced army lists. I totally agree 36 fig units look superb but then Ferrari's look better than Nissans and I can't afford a Ferrari either. Currently I game at home on an 8 x 4 table (cant fit a bigger one in the house) and invite friends to visit for battles. I could possibly afford the armies but wouldnt be able to paint them due to work commitments. I have a French Division (3rd inf div of1st Army Corps @ Waterloo) of two brigades each of 4 x 12 figures units, Two single gun batteries all supported by units of hussars (7th) and Chasseurs (3rd) in nine fig cavalry units. To my mind it looks good and fits on the table with space to manouver. Managable and all painted within a year's worth of days off. Now I am starting research on a Pack's Brigade who they faced at waterloo.
