Conquest of Britania: Romans vs Britons

Postby arkhosh » Wed May 02, 2012 8:44 am

Hi all,

with some friends we've decided few months ago to jump in Hail Caesar. After some hesitations we are starting with a Britanian conquest project. We are building our army, and we plan to make our first game in june (150pts may be a little more). :P

You can see my roman invasion army (in progress) here :
http://ageofheresy.blogspot.fr/search/label/Early%20Imperial%20Romans

my army will figure the II. Legion (and attached auxiliary units) under Vespasian, wih some extra units: praetorians, elephants, 1 or two cohorts of other involved legions, naval support, etc...

and my opponent's (and friend) celt army (in progress too) here:
http://ageofheresy.blogspot.fr/search/label/Celts

These are the Catuvellauni with some druids backup...

Sorry the blog is in french, but eh... I'm french so everything is normal :D

my next unit will be a VIIII Legion cohort (in blue) and some reinforcement for my auxiliary cavalry. And spies tell me that the locals are building some chariots...

They look lots of fun. I take it you're a fan of Slaine? I don't blame you, there's no point taking a Briton army without enjoying some of the crazy stuff too.

Wow c'est magnifique!!!! :D

I like your simple approach to painting the Romans, I may do something similar (4 years after purchasing them :? ).

I also like your idea of a campaign, I have similar plans on a (hypothetical) expedition to Hibernia. ;)

Looking forward to seeing more!

Bonne chance!

Great project. Love the way you have based your minis, very inventive! Like the blog too, some nice ECW stuff tucked away on there.

I look forward to updates.

Superb work - both Celts and Romans. Who produces the Slaine miniature? I'd thought of obtaining the Foundry versions some time, but baulk at the cost. Like the clan chief, hair blowing in the wind - did you do that? Nice touch.

thanks all

I'll try to answer everyone:

- My friend had the mini of Slayne for many years and when he starts this project with me, he knew he would use it for his command..

- Clivethecelt asked who produced the slayne mini and honestly I don't know (think it was Celtos but not sure). For the Bran's warband made by my friend he use some of his old minis from foundry (especially viking's one...) mixed with warlord celts box...

- Cubster :

- Sorry Vogless no picture of the board yet, I need to finish some units first and especially my command ! We plan a game 1rst june "all painted units" (~200pts). I will take photos so you can see our armies "in action".

I'm currently searching some kind of a britain map for our campaign, with regions corresponding to the native tribes territory.

From the bases, I'm guessing it'll be a snow board?

Love to hear how you do it if so. It's been a dream of mine, but it terrifies me so :o :o :o .
