Based upon past discussions, I think there is a good chance that the second Hail Caesar army list supplement, covering Late Antiquity, the Dark Ages and Early Medieval warfare, will include a list for early samurai armies of the Late Heian/Early Kamakura period.
There have also been some conversations about creating later Sengoku Jidai armies in the Hail Caesar discussion group on Yahoo (http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/HailCaesarRules/). The group discussions include a samurai battle report posted by none other than Rick Priestley himself!

We played a samurai korean battle a couple of weeks ago at my local club. The rules worked well, we treated arquebus the same as crossbow with a -1 on morale for short range( under 12"). As the percentage of guns was only around 10-20% in this period i thought that hail casaer done the job. Not sure what percentage they would be in the european theatre around the same era but i assumed it would be much more.
Yeah I'm not sure about Pike and shot, with the exception of a couple of battles, the number of firearms were quite low compeard to mele weapons, The akebuses were also used quite diffretly then in europe.
I think HC with it's diffrent armor ratings ect. and With archers.
olyreed: Thanks thats a good idea about using crossbows
I actually got the idea of the crossbows from the yahoo groups, if i remember Rick Priestley used these rule for a samuai game with the perry twins. Although i might be wrong. I will be doing another one over easter and will hopefully get some pics and do a report on the forums
Yes we've played Samurai games with both Black Powder and Hail Caesar - for HC we just treated the firearms as crossbows with a re-roll (marksman) which worked well-enough - we have also used Break Test mods for early firearms in HC (-1 on the roll) but to be honest the players tend to forget this as often as not... which is my acid test for whether a rule is worth including or not! If they forget... you don't need it.
The forthcoming army lists have early Samurai - Heian and Kamakura periods - and take the armies up to the early 13thC.
A friend of mine and I used my 25mm Samurai and Koreans with HC, the Imjin War supplement to KK2 and the FOGR Asian supplement to assemble an OB. We played a scenario based on the fighting along the Imjin river in the early phase of the war and it worked well. I used the HC stats for medium bowmen for both the Ashigaru bowmen and Arquebusiers but for the Arquebusiers I used the shooting stats of light artillery with a range of 18".
