There's a reconstructed Dark Age settlement just down the street from me and a couple of Roman forts within a few miles. There's a medieval keep and monastry in the city centre, a bunch of Dark Age churches and monastries in the countryside along with a few medieval castles and cathedrals. I take classes right next to one of the largest surviving medieval cathedrals in Europe. Oh, and there's the small matter of a wall. All in all I'm quite well stocked with history thank you very much .

I just moved out of chester but always seem to miss this sort of thing. I think a friend of mine took part though (he seems to think he's a celt or something): we both studied history and archaeology at chester uni, chester being a rather good place to do that sort of thing.
I never really felt the love for the Romans though and its all anyone in chester goes on about, anyone would think nothing else had ever happened there. I recall our lecturer took us on a tour of the city to show us the Roman bits of it: a couple of stones overlooking the Roodee racecourse which were part of the Roman harbour....and thats it really...
