Does it grind pepper?

Lovely wooden gladius... do you think perhaps roman marines might have used such an implement, lighter, doesn't rust and will float if dropped overboard... must go consult my books ;)

@Mikeland - You could use it instead of a wooden spoon as well, you scurrilous lad, you ;)

Looks great! Presume the tip is rounded so you don't stab your practice partner (Mrs Biggus?)! : )
Watch out for your wrist, though - are you thinking of putting a lanyard on it? Nearly broke my wrist trying to use a Mauri patu some years ago because of the strap! How does the wooden copy compare with the metal one for balance?

Thanks Guys,
Cubster, the clear evolution of a gladius is indeed the common or garden pepper mill.....to prove my point I bet the last time you ate out in an italian eatery the waiter didn't come a long with Mainz or pompeii type and say would you like some pepper did he?

Mikeland
I think you are completely wrong about wooden swords and the marines...true wood floats, but then so does.....errrrrr........No it's Rubber swords for marines....why? They are water proof, and they float....they also don't damage the rigging if you accidently miss the target whilst waving said sword around....You clearly need to read more books....but not the ones that are wrong, the ones with the right facts in...get down the library now ;)......I'd start by burning all the ospreys....then what ever takes your fancy, but may I suggest Glee annuals and 27 autobiographies by katie price, Clearly Hitler knew something about books which we have all over looked. ;) Is that why the government is closing all the libraries?

Clive
Spot on...safety first!!! the real thing is a bit pointy!...."Mrs biggus"....she won't thank you for that hahahahaha ;)
Yes, the wrist thing is a concern....i think i'm going to have to bind/brace them for a while with something.
i can feel the potential risk...it's quite heavy.....something like double the weight of a metal sword...(I haven't got the metal one yet!) but will do a compare and contrast when it does.

Earlier i quite felt like falling on my own sword....but it's made of wood and besides the pepper would have gone everywhere. ;)

Thanks for that Big Al !!!

Right then I'm up to my arm pits in stuff at the moment, but will get back to posting warlord romans i have painted and made my own extremely inaccurate fantasy shield transfers for, in the next couple of days........
as shaw taylor used to say.......Keep 'em peeled ;)

Biggus - get yourself one of these, man - http://www.find-me-a-gift.co.uk/wrist-e ... =FR-fun168.

I bought one for my nephew (he's a drummer) and it's really good fun and becomes incredibly tough after a while! You wouldn't believe that this little gyro can feel like a bucket of concrete after ten seconds.

The trick is getting the string-pull right (to start the spin going) and then to find the correct rhythm (ahem) that keeps the gyro going at a steady rate. If you then try to up the tempo, it's akin to trying to stir a really stiff cake mixture.

Might also suggest some of those velcro-on soft wrist weights (e.g. 1kg); comfy enough to wear at home etc, but give you an arm workout without all the messing around with free weights - though they're not advisable if you've a dodgy elbow or shoulder (or wrist, of course!).
