Cubster........that's pretty good for the wooden Gladius......I think I'll use it Assula it is!
Big Al....thank you again.....you seem to be very good at this kind of thing!
Clive...I'm trying to avoid getting too involved with all the kit.....But a shield might crop up at some point to hang on the wall! I'd like an accurate Roman helmet next, it will replace the inaccurate one i have on the shelf with all my books!

That looks nasty! I'm not sure a gladius would be my first choice for a machete!
Interesting none the less, after 2000 years the enemies of Rome have become jungle plants!

Ok here is an update for you....My wooden Gladius (Pompeii type) "ASSULA" has just arrived in the post.
Constructed by Len at Fabrica it is extremely well made (as you'd expect!) handle/grip is 3 piece construction just like the real thing only without the bone grip...it is held together with a metal rod which goes into the blade (this acts as a tang to give strength and hold it all together.)
it's made of oak and is very solid....I've just got to build up my wrist muscles now!
I'm going to get Len to make my steel Gladius a scabbard next....I think i'm going to need a trolly..so many interesting things!
Anyway here are some pictures.
