I've always liked Eastern style Archers since my first Airfix set of Romans in the 1970's! I needed some archers for my Roman Bireme....but not many as space is at a premium with all those marines on board so i thought here is my excuse...i'll buy some Eastern Archers..............and here they are finished in fairly standard colours, but as always bases remain only primed.
Carvel...you're very eagle eyed! yes that is some green stuff...I still haven't got round to filling it yet, but i did make a wreath for the front, as I was impressed by the wreath on the front of the Carthaginian Bireme on same website, and thought it would look impressive on my vessel, I'm going to carry out some more modifications to it, only slight ones......aesthetic rather than structural.
I'll take some photo's of progress on the Warship shortly...when I have filled it!......and conversions as they happen. Progress will be rather slow for some time yet i fear.
Hopefully mine, when i get them, will turn out as nice. I'm planning on using the same color scheme.
What colors did you use?
“conscribe te militem in legionibus. pervagare orbem terrarium. inveni terras externas. cognosce miros peregrines. eviscera eos” ̴ “Join the legions, see the world, travel to foreign parts, meet interesting and exotic people, and disembowel them.”
They look great BD, I wasn't interested in getting any of these was thinking about some Western archers to fit with the auxiliaries. BUt these do look real nice, perhaps I will get some when I eventually (probably 2013 at this rate!) get some roman marines.
I have been doing mainly scenery for my 17c stuff lately, but I have my plastic scorpions on order and have just undercoated a load of Celts & Legionaries, seeing these makes me want to get back on to them. So many models to paint, so little time!
"I've been a frickin' evil doctor for 30 frickin' years! So cut me some frickin' slack."
Mikeland.....Many thanks, The eastern archers are very nice and do look pretty good along side the marines.......I'm posting a picture of my marines painted in a second!.......still need cloaks and shields! Maybe Just move into a marine based roman force! Get a Bireme from G.M you can stick your scorpiones on there!...or have a bash at making one perhaps!
Correus, nice to have you back again!
These are the colours I used, but I'm not entirely sure the full effect is captured by my photo's...but this is what i do....
Flesh I Use in this order G.W. Tallarn Flesh using G.W dark skin i make a wash with it and put that over flesh when dry, i do the same with scorched brown and make a wsh and apply that, when dry, dry brush with a 50/50 mix of Tallern flesh, bleached bone
Armour G.W Boltgun metal Vallejo black wash
Tunic Base coat "DecoArt/Americana Hunter Green (Very nice cheap acrylic) G.W. Green wash Highlight with Scorpion green or a lightened version of hunter green.
Bronze/gold colour items This is my favourite paint at the moment, and certainly the best gold paint i have ever used Vallejo 792 Old gold then Vallejo brown wash over top.
Hope this helps!
