Siege Tower

Postby Stuart » Mon Jun 13, 2011 5:48 pm

Probably a daft question and I'm expecting a one word answer, but if you don't ask an' all that. Did I see somewhere on here a seige tower? or did I dream it.

Stuart, that kind of rings a bell. it might have been one of Hobbyworkers posts.
I have posted a war mammoth which had a tower structure on it's back, hope that isn't confussing you! but i'm pretty sure someone has posted a siege tower...and i think, one they may have constructed themselves........maybe they will come forward!

The other question that springs to mind is......Why ;)
Are you intending build one for some Romans?
I have an Osprey book with Roman siege equipment in somewhere.......might be some towers in there....I know the Greeks used them.

cheers BD, I remember your war mammoth, very nice BTW, but I'm sure I saw a ground based tower, course I could've been going OTT with Rome total war and am seeing towers everywhere!

Why you ask, well I've been working on a Arthurian army for some time (cheesy shiny armour type not Romano Brit sort) and thought a seige tower would look good amongst the ranks to use against the castle I plan on making / getting (haven't decided yet). I mainly do historics but fancied doing something fantasy, while taking a break from ECW, and an Arthurian army battling it out against an undead horde seemed fun. The Imperial Roman topic seemed an apt place to ask, sorry if it mislead. Although I do keep looking at the Roman stuff on here and thinking mmmmm..... maybe?!

I'm pretty sure the seige tower was in the roman section too so you were right!...either that or I have been looking at google images too much!

That's very interesting!..............The only thing i would say is..........get the castle first! it is then a whole lot easier to sort out the boarding ramps to come down at right height!!!!
I saw one of those very nice LOTR orc seige towers made for the action figures........it was quite reasonable in price too, so I bought it to use in my game......The extra space inside is great for extra floor conversions!!!! and so can take a huge number of troops. The only downside is the ramp..............it's so high that when I use it against my GW Castle the troops on the seige tower have to absail down to the walls  ....I've got to do something about that...it's another job to do!!!

Good idea, I'll look for a tower first. either that or I'll get some grappling hooks and rope for those coming out of the tower!!

Stuart
Is it this one?

http://store.warlordgames.co.uk/wooden- ... 1367-p.asp

These are made by Paul who posts on the forums as paul@paulsmodellingworkshop.
It says it is a watchtower, but perhaps it could be modified as a siege tower. (I'm not sure what exactly the difference would be, showing my ignorance. )

Still it looks pretty brilliant to me.

@mikeland, well spotted that's it, I must of got confused and thought it was a seige tower, doesn't look like it would be to hard to convert, even if it comes on a base and it should just mean attaching boarding to the bottom and some wheels. Just need to pm paul and see if he would be kind enough to give me some dimensions so I know what to work with.

@hobbyworker, yes pics would be great even if it's so we can just fawn over them! that and get some ideas.

@BD, I meant get a castle first not "tower", I was paying attention, just very tired last night.
