Roman Navarchus......"Hello Sailor" an Attic Conversion!

Postby Biggus Dickus » Sun Jul 03, 2011 3:47 pm

My Roman marines (Converted Auxiliaries) and Roman Bireme needed an overal commander...this presented a problem. I had purchased Warlords fantastic "Unleash hell" figure.......I already had General Maximus on horseback so I thought I'd paint him up in blue.......he had a bit of stuble/4 o'clock shadow on his chin ,so whilst i was giving him a shave with my craft Knife his head came off......oh dear......what to do? I popped on a new head from the new Attic head conversion set and suddenly a new figure was born......A Roman Navarchus (an Admiral to you and me) This is just one of the many conversion possibillities now available to us all!!!
Let me know what you think! As always he isn't completely finished...base still needs some work

Love him!

I'd bet our mounted officer would look very different with an Attic helmet: http://store.warlordgames.co.uk/imperia ... 4644-p.asp

Excellent job!
Pardon me, Julius! Here wast thou bay'd, brave hart;
Here didst thou fall; and here thy hunters stand,
Sign'd in thy spoil, and crimson'd in thy lethe.

I've got just one thing to say..................."Off with his head" :lol:

As for the rest of you........Thanks guys much appreciated...he took most of yesterday afternoon/evening to paint!....I'm quite pleased with him......I believe at the moment, he may well be the only 28mm Roman Navarchus in the world. 8-)

Thanks guys, i appreciate all your comments. :oops:

Mike as for the blue recipe...

Well the plume is an old pot of humbrol acylic Matt 5025 (a very interesting colour) i then highlighted by slowly reducing it down with another old Humbrol acrylic Matt 5044 which is sky blue!

Pterges were Citadel Hawk Turquoise, then a blue was (also G.W.) and a slightly lighter highlight of Hawk T.

Cloak was "Americanana True Blue base coat then highlighted with a 50/50 mix of True Blue with Bleached sand..also americana....then an even lighter shade of same....with more sand.

Humbrol matt 5044 sky blue was used for everything else with a G.W blue wash over it then highlighted with 50/50 mix of sky blue and bleached sand.
