Boudicca, Queen of the Iceni

Postby Biggus Dickus » Mon Feb 13, 2012 6:47 pm

I have had quite a busy weekend painting...with my camera broken i thought I wouldn't be able to post photo's for a while...but it turns out my daughter has a Sony Cybershot......once i had worked out how to get close up shots it was fine.
it seems to be much better at focussing extreme close ups...but shockingly this reveals a lot more detail than my olympus......that isn't necessarily a good thing!!!! there is nowhere to hide ;)
Anyway This is the Figure kindly swapped by Clive the Celt.....she is from warlord and is superb sculpt, I was so impressed that i got to work straight away.
I wasn't confident enough to do any kind of pattern on her clothes. Gok wan said that due to her having red hair she would look good N.......errrr in Greens and Browns ;) Her hair was a base coat of Scorched Brown working through about 8 layers of dry brushing right up to yellow.......she even has a bit of lippy on.....if she was from Essex i would have given her some tatts....but being from Norfolk i thought better of it ;)
The base was only used to make it easier to paint her...she'll be permanetly attached to a battlefield for my wifes School history project when the other celts and romans are finished....(I've got until September!)
I'm quite impressed with her.....I hope you like her too

She really does look like a Celtic version of a certain Ms. Dimmock :D
A really great job - love the contrast between the brightness of the hair and the greens of the shield and detailing.

Thanks Guys, I appreciate the praise for my humble efforts ;)
I probably didn't do her complete justice...as i left her clothing quite plain for fear of cocking it up....but the colours go well together...but maybe i should have done something else with shield.....I may change that at a latter date.
But I think she will do the job nicely...
.....and has really inspired me to bang out the Celts fairly soon....so i might start on them when Spartans Completed.
Have to say a great sculpt, a joy to paint.

Very nice job there BD!!!

I never noticed how much she looks like Bette Midler.....

Nice work, BD - good, autumnal* colour scheme, spot on for the red-haired ... you wouldn't want to mess with her! She'll certainly give the kids at school the right impression ...
*This is going to sound really ... er ... well, we did a short "Colour Matching" course at work, and it's amazing how certain colours go with certain skin/hair types. Worth looking out for any swatches on eBay for a colour guide to skin types from one of the commercial concerns . :geek:
