New Range, What To Expect & Wish List

Postby Suetonius Paullinus » Sat Jan 21, 2012 4:51 pm

I am very excited about this new range of plastic and metal goodness since it covers one of my favourite periods in history.
But what to expect?
Will we see opponents as well? I'd love to have Indians, Afghans and Persians covered as well!
Maybe siege engines or even a Warlord war elephant 8-)
With as many plastic sets as possible, of course :D

Gentlemen, place your orders here, I am sure the Warlords will listen ;)

Cheers

I expect a metal Alexandros o Megas. And companion cavalry. But that's just being captain (Lochagos? ;) ) Obvious.
I'm mostly interested in what IM had already done in terms of plastic Persians. They were working on them, but it never was clear to me if these were 5th or late 4th century Persians - nor do I really know what the differences would be, I must add. It seems logical to add Persians as the big enemy for the Macedonians to fight, like the Celts were the Roman enemy in the initial release. Not that I am interested in the Persians in order to collect them, I'll have to convince an opponent to do that. At least plenty of Greeks are available already, that's a proper enemy as well as possible ally.
Anyway:
Hypaspistes, however they look (although I like the 'mystery' that surrounds them).
Agrianes and other light infantry, incl Cretan archers.
Somebody with the HC armylist book can probably have a look to see what is probably going to happen.
Also perhaps some metal bits, in order to convert plastic hoplites to early Romans (or complete metal figures, if needed) and settle - once and for all - who really is the greatest Mediterranean power!
War is not about who is right, but who is left...

I think the Persians may be ill-suited as an opponent for current plastic Macedonians as IM miniatures are quite a bit smaller than Warlords Macedonians and I'm guessing the Persians will also be a bit smaller. Myself I went with Wargames factory Persians as they were on sale and since Persians greatly outnumbered Macedonians I can still buy the IM plastic Persians when they come out.

There already are IM/Warlord Cretan archers, peltasts (later peltasts too) metal packs but once again these were made by IM and though I haven't got any metals (only plastic IM hoplites) I suspect they will also be smaller.

As for Hypaspists I was wondering if the Victrix hoplites (I think they will be same size as plastic Warlord phalangites) could be used (using Phrygian helmets and adding feathers) and just paint their cloaks and chiton purple and helmets blue.

One thing I would love though would be some generic, plastic Greek/Hellenic cavalry. I know it has been already stated that companions are going to be metal but it would be cool to have regular, massed cavalry too (Thessalians, Tarantines etc.).

Spaniards, Libyans and more (foot) Numidians, please - to go with/against the Republic Romans. I think someone already mentioned Carthaginians (elephants!) - they'd be great too. The IM "range" sits well on its own, as they are noticeably smaller than the Victrix or WF hoplites - I imagine the Persians will be similar if they're the original IM castings. The WF Numidians are quite tall (as tall as the WG Celts), so sit well for size with other WG figures - just let down by the wooden poses and poor detailing (hint, hint).

Perhaps someone at warlord games can tell us if they are planing an Cathage line
or some indians as adition to the greek and persian line.

I would like some Egyptians and hebrews for the bibilical line.
