Neither Disorder nor Shaken effect the number of dice a unit throws, consequently British and Prussian infantry send Cavalry away no matter what their (the infantry's) status. Most guys who do take Cavalry simply take it to get additional skirmishers on the table.
Should disorder or shaken nullify Platoon Fire? Should Cavalry receiving a disordering 6 not be automatically thrown back, but maybe have to take a test to close?
Cavalry is tough to use right, their greatest weapon is their manoeuvrability, not their sabres. Stop charging them at formed infantry and you'll find them sticking around a bit longer.
Keep them for harrassing the flanks, neutralising enemy cavalry, threatening artillery, driving off skirmishers and butchering broken infantry.
