The area is fairly impressive terrain wise. It beats the snot out of Norfolk, hands down.
What might be considered less impressive is the statue of Mel Gibson at Stirling!

Well, very good then. As long as no one was offended. I am thinking of The Great Statue Melvin the Redeemer (construct 2 year past to recogise Melvin Gibson. It's nice!)

@grant, I live in Forfar in Scotland and made a point of visiting the battlesite at Falkirk and Prestonpans, please don't come all the way from Canada for that! The local council in their infinite wisdom gave planning permission for a dry ski slope to be built on the site which gives a spectacular view of the local rubbish tip, football fields and leisure centre. Falkirk is no better although not built on, there is nothing bar a small monument to mark the battlesite and nothing to orientate the visitor as to jacobite or government lines were. It took enquiries with three employees (presumably locals) of the tourist centre to even point me in the right direction of the battlesite. Scotland doesn't really "do" tourism bar selling tartan keich to the unwary visitor, stirling and edinburgh being startling evidence of that.

That's really too bad - I don't do tacky tourism, so guess I will head elsewhere?

The Wallace Monument is worth a peek. And there's good trout fishing to be had in the River Allan around Stirling, if you can get them to take a bite (they're canny fish) and avoid the eels.
