Well, I will use "By the order of the great white queen", a rule set that is not on the open market. It's flexible enough for 1/1 ratio games. I used it with the Sudan campaign forces you saw and it worked well with larger units too.

It is one of many that are made by a group of students from my university time, now old grey historians that never will grow up fully. And still producing rules that are intended to be more "rivet counting" than most.
They have lists for all arms, not just rifle, pistol.... but with detailed data for the diverse rifles, carbines used in colonial conflicts. Gardner, Nordenfelt, Gatling versions, all have different effects.
Sounds complicated but they are very playable.

I'n glad you said it first. The North Africa stuff has really had me rubbing my chin. The only bit that has really turned me off is their transparent effort to make every army attractive to buyers by making sure they all have access to plenty of good quality units.

Oh don't you just love TMP.

I have bought about 3 issues of WI in the past year, and enjoyed them all thoroughly. I love all the high quality eye candy, and when the main feature is something you like then you get loads of articles of interest. Loved the TYW issue a few months back, and got the Saga one last month.

I'll state up front I have no links to WI - I was invited to join in a Zulu game and jumped at the chance - it happens that WI was covering the game and I don't want to abuse the hospitality of my hosts by revealing anything that they might want to publish.
Boy, it sure would be nice if we had some grenades, don't you think?

Yes I remember the start of this, "lets have an article to promote rules/figures". It was when I was starting up in the business. As an odd one it did not matter so much but a steady diet of such articles has become boring. On the other hand I bought specific issues of Wargames Illustrated because I wanted to know more about a given rules system.

Generally I am more interested in history than playing specific wargame rules.

Don't couch your ideas in such thoughts.
