Well personally I buy whichever I think is the most attractive model, and that's often still metal for me. Despite it's advantages, plastics are still about versatility of pose, which means you often don't get the odd quirky pose that you do with metals. It's not a case of one or the other really, but without knowing what the plastics will be like it's possibly a good move to hold on to the pennies for now.
"You're a big man, but you're in bad shape. With me, it's a full time job." – Lt. Bromhead to Prince Dabulamanzi before the Battle of Rorke's Drift.

Hmm, I'm an old metal man. That plastics are less prone to break is something I would not claim. And a drive in a summer hot car may have some surprising results to thin parts. And aging? Many plastics get briddle with time.

I have no problems in converting metal miniatures, cutting heads, arms, legs or torso, no real problem.

Main plastic advantage is the price. If you need a large force of "targets" they are better.

A problem is that most maker's plastic ranges are not 100% like their metal ones.

I think i'll ''hurry up and wait'' then, In the meantime i'll do some more flicking through my Anglo-Zulu war osprey books.

Does anyone know of a reference paint scheme for 1879 British Line Infantry hiding on the internet somewhere? Osprey is a great source but I could do with getting paints together ready for this project.

I ensure that they wear their seatbelts when travelling in my car, you should too!

Interesting; my heart sank when I saw the price of the buildings set, sadly.

Edit: the price just dropped from £225 to £150 - that puts it in Christmas range!

The only other Rorkes drift set I've seen is by Redoubt enterprises and it's priced in the same region but doesn't inc. all the figs and it's resin, however they do sell the buildings seperately so you never know WG might do their buildings on their own and as it laser cut wood might be cheaper than the resin version I've seen.

Have checked 28mm Anglo-Zulu War, Pre-Orders and New Releases. Can't find anything on Rorkes Drift or zulus. Anyone else experiencing this?

Still there for me. The Rorke's Drift set seems to be changing by the minute. By the time my shower and breakfast were over, it's up to £275!

Obviously a very fluid situation. The Zulu box set started with 30 plastics and 1 metal induna, and now is 32 plastics and metal induna!

Seems there are TWO deals:

1. Rorke's Drift - was the buildings and 20 British and 40 Zulus, doesn't appear any more, for either £225 or £150 ???

2. Collector's Rorke's Drift savings of £88 this appears to be the one on pre-order, at least at time of posting, for £275
Featuring the contents of the Rorke's Drift boxed set at it's core you'll also receive the following:

5 extra resin mealie-bag barricades
1 extra resin biscuit box barricade
4 extra biscuit box/mealie-bag barricades
1 extra resin wagon barricade
2 extra lengths of resin walls
Resin broken down walls (6 x 6" sections)
Resin mealie-bag redoubt (2 x 3" x 6" sections making a 6" square redoubt)
Engineers wagon
Water cart
6 plastic fences (3" sections)
4 x plastic bell tents
Resin Cookhouse
6 metal African cattle
3 x resin ovens
Resin Water Closet
1 x metal dead horse
1 x dog (Pip the Terrier)
British characters based on the film 'Zulu': Chard, Bromhead, Bourne and Hook (all made by Empress Miniatures)
