ERTL 1:64 HEREFORD CATTLE?

Postby Victorious Secret » Sun Jul 08, 2012 2:47 pm

Hi Folks,

I found these ERTL 1:64 HEREFORD CATTLE on auction site. I'm interest in buying them. How's the quality and size compare to 28mm plastic soldiers such as Perry or Warlord? Does anyone have some?

Hum. Not sure about the scale but Warlord and Perrys make 1/48 scale soldiers so the cows in scale 1/64 might look a little small.

I was of the impression that 28 mm is actually 1/56 scale. That should mean that those cows are slightly smaller than they should, but since cows in general are much bigger now than they were in earlier times that shouldn't be a problem.

No bull! I think they would be udderly fine.
ERTL make great lookin farm toys. Speaking of that, I should check out the local Peavey Mart toy section for those and other similar animals. I live in the heart of Alberta beef country. Every kid wants a toy cow to turn into steak!

Thank you gentlemen,

Very interesting you gents have difference in opinion.

@Mrtn, you pointed out something excellent that size of the cattle is smaller in the past. I want to buy this set but worry it will not match the dead cow from Warlord.

@Johnnie, you said earlier there are other manufacture makes 28mm. My google engine just can not help me on that. Actually I have been searching for awhile now for nicely sculpted cow and goats. Do you think you can suggest an alternative?

I would like to hear more from the rest of the gents. Hopefully this well trun out a good topic for the rest of us who's trying to high quality farm animals.

Warlord make some really nice farm animals too.
I don't think they make a "live cow" just dead ones - although I looked at standing one up once. Was not sure if it would work...

LOL Grant,

Sir, thank you for that last sentence. Do you have these cows? they come in 25 with calf and rather cheap. That is one reason I want to purchase and repaint them.

I did not know Warlord makes cows. I really like the animals they make. I will go find now, hopefully some sheeps and goats too!

I know Preiser makes so S scaled animals, will they work with the 28mm?

No yet - but you've inspired me to go and look. I can see the aisle that I've walked past a hundred times (Peavey Mart is full of interesting things) and I've never thought to go and look.

Have to wait for the driveway to dry (varnished today, 2nd coat) but it might be possible tonight.

'S scale' is 1/64 too isn't it? Personally I wouldn't fret about a small difference in sizing for something like farm animals. Presumably they'll mostly be there as mobile terrain anyway.

Thank you Cubster. I know I know, but sometimes I can be a bit "anal retentive" about accuracy sometimes.

Oh, my apology, the Presier cow is actually in O scale. Here's the picture of one. Do you gents think these will work better?
