WIP Aztec village

Postby Augustus_Gaius » Wed May 23, 2012 11:06 pm

Hello all, i've been inspired to create some new terrain by some recent threads on here ;) and I thought that a small Aztec village for
skirmish games would be a cool piece to create, as of present it is still in the baby stages but i think i will use mdf as a base and foam board to build the buildings etc. so heres some images of said villages/ buildings (reconstructions of course)

http://www.irregularminiatures.co.uk/images4/6mm%20aztec%201n.jpg some houses basically, read somewhere that it was actually illegal for "commoners" to build their homes more than one story high

http://www.corbisimages.com/images/Corbis-RC001182.jpg?size=67&uid=74c3acfa-3133-4596-9614-028747c12668this is a ceramic model of an Aztec village, I'm probably going to include a little market place in the village

http://www.precolumbianwomen.com/aztec-village-life.jpgthis is an artists interpretation of a village, am unsure whether to include a river as it might limit it's use if i do.

anyway, that about it for now Oh except what is a village without it's residents?
will certainly be purchasing this neat little pack at some point, especially because it's from the same place i bought my Aztec soldiers so (hopefully!) the sculpts will be very consistent in size http://www.outpostwargameservices.co.uk/images/Web%20Photos/aztecs/az12.jpg

The next thing I intend to do is draw a plan of the village albeit with my child like drawing abilities

cheers!

Edit: Think im going to do the houses like this:
http://www.mexicolore.co.uk/images-4/426_03_2.jpg I think it's more realistic for small rural communities (rather this http://www.mexicolore.co.uk/?one=azt&tw ... 26&typ=reg article does ;) )

Progress! ;)

have drawn a "concept sketch" (basically what i envisioned albeit 100 times more crudely drawn ;)) It isn't to scale and is a very quick rendition of what i hope to achieve in model form. I'm going to build all of the structures individually obviously that image is a potential placement sort of thing.

Heres a list of the buildings that i need to get cracking on:
4 peasant houses
1 grain storage
2 marker stalls (one large and one small)
1 chinampa (farming island thing :P)
1 nobles house
1 tiny step pyramid (an alter if you will)
1 village centre marker (the concentric circle thing)

i also need to build various plant bases to set the scene and all the other little misc things pictured.

I have some q's if anybody has any tips:
how should i go about doing the thatching?
what materials should i build the houses out of (foam, plasticard etc.)

this second image shows some slightly less crude (but they still are quite) plans for the peasant houses and chinampa (the side view of the house is incorrect as well!)

anyway thanks for reading :)

p.s. (have tried shrinking imgs but it's not working :x )
