Snow Board Tips?

Postby Vogless » Fri May 04, 2012 1:58 pm

I've always wanted to do a snow board.

Anyone have any tips on how to do the snow? I'm trying to avoid yellowing of the snow, or even marks from the bottoms of the models.

Is this just something that happens no matter what?

Find a way of keeping it out of the sun would be one top tip! I think it's a tricky one though -how big are you planning?

Snowboarding is a dangerous sport. My brother has both wrecked his knee and pulled fingers out of sockets snowboarding.

On a serious note, I have a 4x6 snow table that I built, and looks cool (I'll be here all week folks!)

How I built mine.
1. Cover table in a sand-white house primer mix for texture.
2. Mix up white glue and snow flock and apply in large blobby drifts.
3. When all dry, go back over with the white house primer, no sand.
4. Use ice blue spray paint to casually add coolness to the table.

Enjoy!

How about some pics, Grant?

I had a similar idea.

1)I was going to mix some of the flock into the white paint.
2) Sprinkle flock on top of the wet mix
3) Seal with Future floor polish as it should protect the board and give it a bit of sparkle.

Have you had any problems with your board?

I've heard that bicarbonate of soda gives a brilliant snow effect. Not tried it myself, nor have I compared the price vs snow flock.

Have a nice trip!

No rush on the pics, but I would love to see them.

How are the boards holding up? Scuffs, yellowing, anything?

I seem to recall from my days of building 1/35 dioramas that a light coat of hairspray added sparkle to snow.

The board has been indestructible - no wear or anything. In fact as I am nitty doing anything winter anymore, they are going to get repainted sand.
