Wattle fencing

Postby carvel2 » Sun Apr 01, 2012 11:26 pm

Had a go at this today. Split some bamboo squewers as the verticles and tried to weave pipe tapers (thinly sliced) through them.
Complete waste of time.
The uprights became very 'stressed'
Any suggestions?

I was thinking of sticking a row of match sticks on to a base as the uprights then weaving fuse type wires between them as the horizontals. The wires will bend without outting stress on the verticals.

If you can get it, florists wire is very good for bending but keeping it's shape (if that makes sense), you can get different thickness and it's only a couple of quid for loads of it (I got mine from Hobby craft), maybe pop rivets from B&Q (other DIY stores are available ;) ) again a couple of quid for loads, as it's all metal might be a bit more sturdy.

I believe the Perrys/Renedra will have some in plastic coming out at Salute along with a medieval house kit. I am excited about the former and anxious about the latter as it may make mine look pooh.

I had been wondering about using lead wire or solder for the horizontal bits but hopefully now I will not need to. Thin strips of plastic card or the strips from Evergreen or Slaters might be better.
