4ground timber frame cottage

Postby anevilgiraffe » Thu Apr 05, 2012 4:30 pm

the old timber frame cottage from 4ground.co.uk, this is the basic silhoutte kit dressed up with balsa, g/s and a towel... not 100% happy the thatch, had to avoid a too yellow/brown, so ended up using a Vallejo Green Grey and Green Ochre, I kind of like the finish, it has a dirty, old look, and as a first attempt at thatch, I can live with it...

blurb is on the blog if you want details, otherwise it's just pics...

this is the basic kit (with a bit of balsa) - in progress shots are on my blog

very happy with it and have ordered a couple more, may try some different layouts for the windows and so on...

Looks fantastic, ESPECIALLY the thatch! (and thanks for the recipe). I keep a log of interesting ideas, and I will shamelessly copy your picture into it for future reference with that recipe!

Warlord REALLY needs to carry these guys. Their stuff looks terrific.
Take car. Go to Mum's. Kill Phil - "Sorry." - grab Liz, go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to blow over. How's that for a slice of fried gold?

These kits are very nice as they come but you have lifted it to another level. Brilliant piece of work.

ah... well that is kind of the icing sugar dusted on top of several different attempts... so using those colours alone is probably not going to give you the same finish...

started with a black towel... I initially drybrushed with Graveyard Earth as a base colour (any greyish brown will probably do), so start with that leaving some of the black of the towel showing behind, then drybrush with the green grey, then with the green ochre, but as it was random, you may need to juggle those a bit... I also had to redefine the shadow between each strip, that was a wash of a Graveyard Earth/Black mix...

but, yes, sorry, first go at thatch...

I'm just waiting for either 4ground or Fenris to finish their planned tiled strips as I hate cutting tiles out...

That's really good, I had spied these on 4ground and I second grants thoughts, WG need to do some of these. And the Roman watchtower.
