quickshade for ecw

Postby 2close2theflame » Sat Feb 25, 2012 6:42 pm

hei again everyone, finally have two foot regiments and a fire-lock party put together ready for painting. i plan on using A.P. quick shade for the first time and am seeking advice on what tone strength you guys would recommend. plan on using a blue base for one and red for the second foot regs and green for the fire-locks. id like to get by with using just one tone if i can. thanks for your time and help. :D

Howdy, I used the strong tone on Rawdons Reg (yellow base) and Newcastles reg and they worked out pretty well, I don't think you can go far wrong with the medium one and I don't know if you've used the AP dips before but in case you haven't, brush it on don't dip them you'll get a better effect.Hope this helps a bit.

the mid tone is what ive been thinking of, and yep this will be my first time "dipping". and thx for the brushing on advice, i.m.o. actually dipping sounds messy lol. the look im going for on my minis is a wartorn and gritty if that helps out at all., again thx for your help and time! im anxious to get these guys out on the field.

The mid tone will give a gritty effect, I never put pics of Rawdons reg up but if you look at my Romans under the show us yours section that's the look I went for, I never even highlighted the flesh as I want them to look really wartorn and washed out (almost has that band of brothers washed out look).

Thanks, it really cuts the time down, it would take me about two / three weeks to do a box of ECW but using the AP it cuts it down to about a week and a half. Since Thursday night I've built, base painted and completed the shields on a box of Romans ready to have the AP put on tonight while the missus is watching dancing on ice, they'll have their bases done monday / tuesday, so that'll be just under a week for a reg of legionairies, they won't win any awards but they look good on the table.

as long as the rank and files look decent ill be happy, my characters and commands i will be spending a bit more time on details and maybe a few special bases for named minis. my King Charles I i plan on doing something special, just havent came up with any ideas in stone yet.

Personally I don't think they do, foundry are quite a bit smaller, how ever look at most reg. and there's a variety of heights. It's all down to taste I suppose, I like my reg's to be quite uniformed with height. It's not as noticable if you're going to have a reg of WG and a reg of foundry rather than mixing them.
