Pirate ship

Postby CptJake » Sat Mar 10, 2012 1:43 pm

I've been working on a new project, a pirate cutter!

The ship is a laser engraved wood kit from http://yhst-131870678834828.stores.yahoo.net/index.html , cannon are metal, the smaller ones from Games of War, the larger from Eureka.

Very fun project so far!

I'm looking at some of the Pike and Shotte era figs, maybe a sprue or two of muskateers to be part of the crew.

Not bad for that price. If one search a gaming model for 28mm miniatures it is usefull.

You might add some svivel guns. A Cutter had normally some of them and only small 3 or 4pdr guns. The bigger one would crush the small vessel by weight and recoil.

Nice.

I like that a lot, very nice...my daughter has a lot of pirates and wants a ship for them...this might fit the bill...it will give Captain Jack (from musketeer miniatures) something to command!
thanks for posting that!

I do have some swivel guns (from the same sources as the cannon) and they are on the 'to do' list. I also need to figure out how to attach the anchor and what to name her (and then how to neatly paint the name onto the stern!)

The pirate gaming is going to be more movie than historical, so Big Guns won't prove an issue. They just may make taking down the Evil Skeleton Pirates a little easier

Thanks for the complements and comments guys.

for the name....How about a print off the computer...stick it on and weather it in?
And of course a naming competition...

You could name it Eloise! After the song by The Damned?

I guess you would like to have the anchor fixed in a way that you can throw it? Difficult in this scale.
The cable was often led through one of the foremost gunports , inside behind the bowsprit was a big winch or capstan. Looking like a roller with vertical handles on the sides, not the big round "barrels" with horizontal handles for SOL. That was used for handling the anchor and all other heavy work on board.

You can lay the anchor along the top of the bulwark fixed to the cathead like shown here by a modeller:

Oh and the name. For a Pirate I would suggest something more, hmmm, bloodthirsty. Scavenger? Or Revenge?
