You should not need to thin your Vallejo air at all. Its made for air brushes and I have not had a drama yet. Just make sure you shake it good.

With normal Vallejo model colour I use 70% paint, 30% Rubbing Alcohol. Put both in a container with a lid and shake the living shit out of it. And it will spray perfect with no air brush blockages.

Most big stores around the world sell rubbing alcohol in the medicine section because its used as antiseptic. Great stuff for cleaning your air brush as well.

Yup I know about the rubbing alcohol. It's the same thing as Tamiya thinners, usually called isopropyl alcohol or 'ipa' over here. Most dispensing chemists have it if you promise not to use it for refining narcotics. ;)

I did not know rubbing alcohol was same as the Tamiya thinners. Massive price difference. A litre of rubbing alcohol is significantly cheaper than 250ml of Tamiya thinner.

It's also not as dilute so you cut it with water.

Interesting. that suggests my bad experience with the Vallejo paints was not due to an interaction with the Tamiya thinners. Since then I have not mixed the two in a painting session and have not have any problems. Maybe I am just an idiot.

I have read that rubbing alcohol may have additives in it that thinners does not that might be unhelpful. I have no idea if this is true - and if you have not had any problems with it...

From what I recall from my days as a chemist there are some pharmaceutical versions of rubbing alcohol that have stuff added to them, like glycerol and perfumes to make them smell more attractive etc. Like Parus says, best to go for the stuff that's labelled isopropyl alcohol.

You can get Isopropyl alcohol from RS Spares and other Computer Supplies or Office Supplies. It is used in computing all the time for cleaning tape heads. I get big aerosol cans of it. It is highly flammable and at 99. whatever % alcohol, the fumes in an enclosed space can be interesting. I found out when I used a fea wursts while under a printer hood. The effect doesn't last long though. Just breathing it in sends your head spinning.

...Which is why I suggest you go outside and cut it with water. And don't put it and GW foundations together, you get an interesting chemical reaction.
