Liquid Green Stuff equivalent?

Postby herzlos » Fri Jun 15, 2012 8:49 am

After being told I could buy Liquid Green Stuff to fix some casting defects, I stubbornly refused to buy any :x

But on reflection having some seems like a good idea for doing bases and little things where mixing regular green stuff is excessive. Since Green Stuff is a fairly generic term, is there any similar products out there? How do they compare?

Ideally I'm looking for something bigger than the 12ml bottles and with a fine nozzle so that I don't need a brush to apply (it must ruin the brush, right?)

I've seen it compared to "Milliput milk", i e milliput with water. I've never used LGS, so it's just "stuff I read on the internet".

I love liquid green stuff, fast become an essential for me.
It is useful for many things.

I use a small but cheap hobby brush to apply and wash it with soapy water and it is fine.

Vallejo does one (of course), which I think is called Vallejo Plastic Putty. I've not bought any, but I presume it's in the same thin-nozzle bottle as their paints.

You can also use Milliput with water, or Milliput with water and PVA, but again that won't really fulfill your criteria regarding a nozzle and will need mixing each time.

Vallejo Plastic Putty.

17ml in a eyedropper bottle.

Similar properties as Liquid Greenstuff - acrylic paste with bulking filler.

I still use an old paintbrush to apply, but it cleans up with water.

Or try Tamiya filler, diluted with acetone to brush on (aggressive solvent - use with caution).

I use Liquid Greenstuff mainly for convenience as our Indi store stocks it ;)

Doubtless soon to be discontinued.

With anything plastic I still tend to use the old stinky and toxic model putties such as Humbrol or Squadron.

Thanks guys :)

I might just give the LGS a go and keep an eye out for the Vallejo stuff at the shows.

I sniffed around for an alternative but there was none that was satisfactory and available locally. I am pleased enough with LG so I am not really motivated to find an alternative.

With thin gaps like seams thicker CA glue will do the job. Otherwise I can recommend Gel Medium. Just be sure to run some water on your finger, and then smooth the area of the stuff down. It will keep brush strokes.
