Charging cavalry who are in support

Postby Matt Dower » Mon May 14, 2012 2:22 pm

What happens if a unit of Infantry charges a unit of cavalry which is currently supporting a combat.

I have read the thread: viewtopic.php?f=29&t=2813

This suggests that the cavalry stops supporting and starts fighting the new unit - OK so far?

My questions are:

1. Does the cavalry get the opportunity to counter charge?

2. Does the cavalry use its "clash" value, or does it use its "Sustained" value since it has been fighting for some time?

1) The cavalry counts as being engaged, so it cannot counter charge. There are some that might contest this, so, if the cavalry does not have any incidental contact with the enemy, then I suppose that it could countercharge, but otherwise it couldn't. However, I wouldn't allow it because it counts as engaged.

2) The cavalry will use its clash value in the first round of combat. All units do this whether or not they have charged. Sustained is for subsequent rounds of the same combat.

Hope this helps.
