I would use the same guideline as in the book in the section on units and formation sizes. I would say between 6 and 10. Whatever you feel comfortable with or like the look of, really.
I suppose it is really. The unit size may well be similar to a 2 rank infantry unit in that it has a similar amount of figures. It's more a matter of what you consider to be a small unit using the guidelines that are available. A tiny unit to me would be around 3 or 4 figures, a small one roughly double that. They will likely be based individually, so that you have flexibility of deployment.
Yes - same number of models as a 2-deep battle line equivalent - or thereabouts - it might have helped if I'd put an entry in for skirmishers of course!I always - well as far as I recall always - field skirmishers as small units of 8-12 models - which looks right - gives them about the right fighting ability - and when arranged into a staggered line with space between the models pretty much matches the width of a standard unit. If you're otehrwise using the number of moels recommended in HC then that's what I'd suggest for skirmishers. Rick
I think I will be placing my skirmishers on 3 or 4 figure bases to make it quicker to move them around. Just make the bases big enough with space between the figures. If I play a game which needs figure removal then I will use some of the dial dudes markers.
