Three feet of Greeks

Hi Chip, fear not......Immortal miniatures are as we speak on the case, I think their release was delayed, due to new research coming to light..........so they will look different to the W.F ones....likely be the most accurate persians ever!Might be worth emailing Steve at immortal and see how it's going!!!!!....joining their mailing list is also very useful..you get to see a lot of sneaky peeks at what is going on way before it is released. I have to say 640 Greeks that's quite a lot of work!!!!!......I'm struglling with about 70. I have assembled them (except for shield arm to ease painting) I've been making my own shield decals, so looking forward to using those!Good luck with the other 320!!!

Three feet of Greeks

Postby Chip » Mon Apr 11, 2011 5:45 pm

I have been following immortal miniatures for a bit. At this time I have got 15 phalanxes of thirty two hoplites completely built at eight wide and four deep so should be set for use with Hail Ceasar. This is a slightly better pic of Ten Phalanxes...Phalanxi??I am considering buying some Celts or Daciens to go with my greeks.. I seem to remember that there were a few battles between the Greeks and thier more northerly neighbors but even if there were not I would still think it neat to put my Hoplites on the table with some naked painted savages. All in all I can not speak highly enough about the immortal miniatures hoplites. They are truly excellent figures.

Isn't it Phalanx singular and plural? That's what i'd have thought! Love to see pictures!

You would normally only use it as a term for a tactical formation in which all your heavy infantry units fought as a mass and thus yoy rarely see it in its plural form. For instance, in Alexander's great pitched battles his phalanx consisted of his six heavy infantry brigades of foot companions and his three brigades of hypasipists. But at Gaugamela he also technically employed a rear phalanx of Greek allies, mercenaries and subject states (Illyrians etc.). Hence he actually had more than one phalanx. And in answer to this semantic quandary...the ancient Greek term is phalanxes in its plural form. I could have just said that in the first place!!Now let's get back to killing Persians

Phalanges or Phalanxes, either one's okay.
