Boxed plastics crusades?

Postby lordStanley » Thu May 17, 2012 1:41 pm

Yeah, as the title implies.

Does anyone know if there are boxed sets available for both European and Muslim armies? Couldn´t find any 22-32 piece sets from Perry, Gripping or Foundry or indeed here. (Norman knights I realize are available from here! Yes!) But what about all else that one wants?

None that I am aware of. Perry make the nicest metals though!

Fireforge games do plastic Teutonic, Templar knights and mounted sergeants... Not sure if any of those are appropriate, high middle ages are one of my worse historical blind spots. As to plastic Muslim warriors I'm afraid there is nothing available yet to my knowledge.

My advice is, unless you have an absolutely irresistible urge for a period, wait and see... Most of the major armies for the major periods are gradually making it to 28mm hard plastic, and there have even been vague hints in here that the crusades may one day be covered by WG.

I am taking this approach with the '45, and waiting patiently for plastic Jacobites, and I even have a (perhaps misguided) hope that I e day the great war will make it to plastic. In the mean time I have plenty to occupy me.

I too am very keen on the '45!

For plastic Muslim armies, one option might be GW actually. Their Harad line is likely sculpted by Perry twins anyway, and they would fit the bill at a price - wait, it's GW - the metals from Perry are STILL priced better!

Harad...yes..could work actually! I do already own some 30 figures of these since Wo tR got me all into this business first place. Painted less fantasy-ish...but as lots of other hobbyists, I am trying to stay away from gw and their buisiness model. Well, alright, I already substitute barbarians with orcs so why not!

The second batch is referred to as "Crusader Knights", actually, and I believe could be used for pretty much any knight of the era.

I believe that they should be usable as European Crusaders starting as early as the Second Crusade. Fireforge is supposed to have three sets of plastic European infantry coming out later this year before moving on to opposition forces, though I've got a sneaking suspicion that said opposition will be for the Teutonics' crusade in Northern Europe as opposed to Muslim forces in the Middle East.

Hah! I remember them originally announcing the new figures as "Crusader Knights". Looks like they changed their minds on what to call the figures.

I stand corrected.

I wouldn't use them as Templars either, Hospitallers are much more interesting.
