Has a list outlien been drafted? Somewhere in the mists of time the idea was enshrined in wargaming lore that the later army included many less natibe troops than the earlier Komnenon army - and even that had a large mercenary contingent.Modern reserach eg Birkenmeir and the sources Cinnamus and Chonaites say different and paint a picture of a native Byzantine army with a good track record and solid troops , if with a substantial mercenary contingent. At Mycrocpelium it was the Frankish knights that broke not the Byzanitne regular horse and foot. Any thinking yet??
