Classical heavy cavalry

Postby Hastings » Wed Oct 19, 2011 10:54 am

Hi
Hope this isn't running ahead of the lists. Just read the piece on Dacian Cavalry. Quite agree about Romans being downgraded, certainly in the Punic Wars era. But im wondering about allied cavalry such as the better types of Gauls and Spaniards, since these turn up in most republican armies we know about and even fellas like Herod had a Gallic Cavalry bodyguard, its probably fair to say these were worth having. so can we play they as straight Heavy cavalry or do you suggest a different interpretation?
cheers

Got the lists today- first must say i like them a lot. im going to be spending a lot of time digesting this book im sure, if today has been anything to go by. Ok so nearly everybody in the classical world are MC with clash 8, ok sorta see that. I like the extras on the Gauls and Germans in the Marian Roman list makes them a bit better than average. The one im not sure about is the Persian guard cavalry, they are now better protected than companions, i suppose asuming they were half barded? i guess the companions still have an edge as they qualify as kontos armed. I think mithradatic armies might start being seen more frequently good cavalry and a good range of infantry.
Anyway cracking job guys really hit the spot
