French taken in the rear

Postby Dontpanic » Sun Apr 15, 2012 9:00 am

Gentleman I have a question arising from my clubs first proper BP game. My sneaky French opponent charged my Russia foot in the flank with infantry. Rather surprisingly the combat ended in a draw. In the next turn I was delighted to take the French up the arse with a very willing unit of Russian infantry. Two questions arise;

1. Do the Russians taken in the flank turn to face after the first round of combat ?

2. In the second turn the French are fighting to both their front and rear, if I read the rules correctly, each combat is resolved individually with the French rolling their full amount of dice twice. Right?

Thanks in advance.

After the drawn combat, your Russians can turn to face in the next round

In the second question, you haven't read it correctly. The French unit is fighting two units in the same combat. They can only allocate half of their attacks to the flank and half to the rear. See Page 65, last paragraph, column 1. Had they been engaged to their front, then half of their attacks must be allocated to the front. The other half can be allocated to either front, rear or flank.

The important thing to note is that it is only one combat and not two because two enemy units are involved against one. If there had been two French units next to each other and one was hit in the rear and the other in the flank, that would be split into two combats, but not in the situation described.

Best topic title, ever.
Take car. Go to Mum's. Kill Phil - "Sorry." - grab Liz, go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to blow over. How's that for a slice of fried gold?
