british waterloo paint scheme

bought some stuff off of ebay and one was victrix british center company.i was wondering if any of you had any ideas for some good paint schemes.or just links to tutorials.ive seen artmaster studios tutorial on youtube but was wondering if there was a different one.

Really, the Artmaster one is a good one. For the units however, they are almost all red jackets, grey trousers (or sometimes white) black hats and backpacks, white straps and for centre company, white tufts on the shoulders. Oh and a pale blue canteen bottle. Where the myriad of differences are between the regiments is the Regimental colours. The box you have bought will have some flags on the side and maybe on the instruction sheet inside (can't remember). The union flag is the King's colour and the colourful flag is the Regimental Colour. This base colour is reflected on the collars and cuffs of each soldier of the unit. So if it is a yellow flag, each figure has yellow collar and cuffs on his jacket. These are called Facings. However, that isn't all. The musician is usually reversed. His jacket will be the same as the Colour with red collar and cuffs. There is a slight difference to this last piece, though, and that is if the colour is white. Then the musician could be in white or in red with white collar and cuffs. Depends on the regiment. A very useful guide is the one that comes with the Perry plastic infantry box. I don't know if this is available online, but it shows a number of different regimental uniforms as a guide. Other than that, you'll need to get a book on it.
A good one is "British Napoleonic Uniforms: The First Complete Illustrated Guide to Uniforms, Facings and Lace: A Complete Illustrated Guide to Uniforms and Braids by C.E. Franklin" available on Amazon for £22 or so.

This site is great for stuff like that, just have a peek at the different battles and you'll see a plate from that nice man Tim Reese here and there. If I didn't already have a library full of source material for Napoleonics I would certainly invest in his CD's; a good comprehensive uniform guide for a decent price.

Regiments faced blue, black,white or red did not have reversed coats for musicians they will have red coats. Also the for those faced white or red the regimental colour will be a red cross of st george on a white field(black for back faced units) with the union in the top corner clasest to the staff.

It gets more confusing for foot guards as the union flag is not the kings colour it is the company colour not a regimental the small number in roman numerals in the top corner is for the company however they only took one into the field. the other colour (the maroon looking one)is the kings colour.
