LAOK dragoons rule

Postby Wurger54 » Thu Sep 22, 2011 4:54 pm

Does the dragoon special rule in LAOK only apply to armies that have 'Dragoons' listed in the special traits column? Austrian dragoons do not have that listed under special traits for thier dragoon units. Is that a typo? :?:

I think that during the later periods dragoons became more like cavalry and left their mounted infantry roots behind. it was a slow evolution and no doubt some nations were ahead of others.

now i have said all this it will turn out to be a typo!!!
The officers will...inculcate in the mens' minds a reliance on the bayonet; men of their bodily strength and even a coward may be their match in firing, but the bayonet in the hands of the valiant is irresistible. Lieutenant-General Burgoyne

Hi,

In the Austian List I treated the Austrian Dragoons as the later "charging" cavalry, hence the +1 Hvy Cavalry rule. Both Hussars and Dragoons could be given the "Dragoons" special ability if you want. We are refighting Dettingen this weekend and I have given the Austrian Dragoons the "dragoon" special ability, as they did dismount to seize the town on the morning of the battle! I think by the later Seven Years War they were very much line cavalry, but the choice is yours.

cheers
