AZW Native Horse

Postby Keith » Thu Oct 13, 2011 10:05 pm

Well, it looked very empty in this room so I'd thought I'd start things going while we wait for some new boxed sets to arrive :)

I'm starting work on some of these fellows. Empress Native Horse ... figures designed to be entirely consistent with the new plastic sets. One of my favourite units.

That's brilliant  , I've got a lot of the Empress stuff and they are really good so can't wait for the new Warlord range to get going. I'll try and get some pics up of their ZULU cast figures over the week end. I really like the way you do horses

That is really great painting! Lovely work on the horse and the cloth! I'm going to find the new WG/empress AZW range really hard to resist!

What a lovely painted miniature. And a lot of action in the sculpt. :o

The Natal Native contingent is one of the units that played a big role, good or bad. But there are many mysteries, one is the arnament. Most books simply state one rifle per mounted man and one muzzleloading rifle in 10 for the foot. The last statement is wrong anyway. The government ordered special guns to be made for them, they look exactly like the old Enfield but are smoothbores! I have one in my collection, made in 1878.

It's not sure that the horse realy got many breechloading rifles, the white population at the cape resented that very much. Firing from horeseback is just waste of amunition, little chance to hit anything over 20 yards. But against a full impi  Better run and call the redcoats. Recce was their prime job, something the CO forgot at Isa.......

Fantastic model and a gorgeous paintjob. Empress are seriously good.

There's no way I can resist getting some of those eventually, but I'll have to do some conversions to make them Edendales (they wore shoes, unlike the other NNC's).
