Most books simply state one rifle per mounted man and one muzzleloading rifle in 10 for the foot. The last statement is wrong anyway. The government ordered special guns to be made for them, they look exactly like the old Enfield but are smoothbores! I have one in my collection, made in 1878.
It's not sure that the horse realy got many breechloading rifles, the white population at the cape resented that very much.
